Samsung started the year 2021 with a bang, launching its long-awaited refresh to the Galaxy S smartphone series.
There are three models including the Ultra – the most premium Galaxy S21 device you can get.
We had the S21 Ultra for four weeks and that’s what we found.
How do I get it and what will it cost?
The Galaxy S21 Ultra comes in white phantom colors and black phantom with three exclusive colors directly from Samsung – Phantom Titanium, Phantom Navy and Phantom Brown.
It is now available starting at $ 1,599 from all regular retailers including Vodafone and Telstra.
Who is it good for?
Let’s get straight to the point. The Galaxy S21 Ultra is the best Android phone you can buy right now. Samsung took the feedback from the S20 Ultra last year and improved it.
It’s the phone forever when it comes to form and functionality and even feels much better in terms of ergonomics than the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max.
If you want the most prestigious Android phone, then look no further.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra is a great phone however the screen and curved sides help it feel great in the hand and comfortable to hold.
There is the power swing on the right with the power button below. Gone is the dedicated Bixby button from previous generations.
But the real standout feature is the cameras.
A single punch cut is in the center of the top of the screen for the front-facing 40-megapixel front-facing camera, which is sure to take that perfect selfie every time.
Around the back is one camera module – it houses a main camera of 108 megapixels, a field of view of 120 megapixels 120 degrees ultra-wide and optical zoom cameras 3 and 10 times. There is also auto-focus on the laser.
During the four weeks with the Galaxy S21 Ultra very little I can go wrong with the phone.
Usually, there are a few small things that tend to annoy me when it comes to things like screen, battery, camera or overall software experience. However, I did not encounter any of these issues.
The large 6.8-inch dynamic AMOLED screen is stunning with finer curves than previous iterations. The adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz makes things particularly smooth.
For security reasons, I tend to use fingerprint sensors when available – and the ultrasound on the Galaxy S21 Ultra is fast and reliable.
I also like the matte texture design that keeps the phone clean and the fingerprint. If you want to add more protection here, you can also pick up a bag. I use one of Samsung’s official leather cases.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra will get you through easily with enough power to watch YouTube, catch up on the news, surf social networks, get stuck in ticketing and chat with friends and family. Oh, and of course respond to your boss via email.
I found that a full charge would be enough for me for one day and 9 hours, without power saving features being activated.

These are some of the best cameras I have used on a smartphone, and are very versatile in what they can do. From ‘single shot’ to capture the perfect moment, and ‘moon mode’ to see what our nearest heavenly neighbor is.
The results from here are quite impressive – if that’s your thing.
In terms of day-to-day photography, landscape photography is great, even when published.
There is not too much guilt from this heavy weight of Android with shots that have remained fairly consistent in any lighting scenario.
What to love?
- Great view
- Great battery life (Exynos)
- Amazing cameras
- Fast and reliable software
- Water and dust resistance (IP68)
What not to love?
- There is no luggage in the box
What we think
Samsung has made a fantastic phone in the Galaxy S21 Ultra. It marks all the right boxes in terms of display, battery life, versatile cameras and great software.
While it may be a little on the expensive side, it’s definitely a little easier to justify the sale – given what you get compared to the other fruity flagship.
