Brit died of rabies in Morocco after being bitten by a cat there. UK Health Care Service UK said today and specifically called on travelers with destinations in Asia and Africa to hold vaccine recommendations. As the news agency reported, the man affected was bitten a few weeks ago, but not treated fast enough.

"In this case, the vaccine was not fast enough," said Jimmy Whitworth, a professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. In humans, rabies symptoms were "two to three months" after exposure to the virus. "It can only take a week, so it's important to see your doctor and immediately have to vaccinate yourself," he said.

Rabies attacks the nervous system, especially the brain, leading to complete paralysis and ultimately death, said Jonathan Bull, professor of molecular virology at the University of Nottingham. "Vaccines are very effective, but they must be used before symptoms appear," he said.
