Van der Belen records the law of linkage
Vienna. Federal President Alexander van der Belen signed the law on the linkage of family allowances on Monday despite serious concerns.
"However, I have many doubts whether this law also conforms to European law," Van der Belen said.
The head of state received a specific opinion on this. According to this, van der Belen only has to declare with his signature if the law was established constitutional. Violations of EU law are not his authority.
It is still not decided how Van der Bellen will judge the recent law on social insurance reform. Last week, the ÖVP and the FPÖ violated the Social Security Law and authorized Welfare Minister Beate Hartinger-Klein to "prepare" for reforming the health insurance system before the relevant laws are in force. Opposition whipped and called on the Federal President not to approve the law. CEO Heinz Fischer did not sign an amendment to the industrial code in 2008 because of a mistake.
