CONCACAF denies an Ottawa felony sanction to play at the USL next season – Athletic



CONCACAF announced the Ottawa fury that the Confederation would not authorize the team to play the USL Championship for the 2019 season.

The verdict, delivered on Wednesday morning, came as a surprise to the fury. The club was approved in November by the Canadian Football Association (CSA) to play the border in the American Premier League. Ottawa chose to stay at the USL in 2019 instead of signing the first season of the newly formed Canadian Premier League.

Concave originally informed the CSA of its decision, and the National Society passed it on to the fury. A letter from CSA President Stephen Reed to Ottawa stated that CONCACAF takes the position that the Canadian League League is set to play in 2019, so Ottawa is no longer qualified as "extraordinary circumstances" to play in a cross-border league.
