Ex monkeys research nicotine now in the primates temple

More than two dozen monkeys tested in a nicotine addiction study were transferred from the Arkansas laboratory to a primates temple in Florida.

Gainesville Sun reported today that squirrel monkeys are now in the jungle prime primates. The US Food and Drug Administration suspended nicotine addiction research last year after learning that four study monkeys died.

FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said in January that the study did not meet agency standards and would be stopped. The monkeys were sent, with a million dollars for their handling, to the jungle fringe.

The monkeys arrived in November and are now slowly introduced to various foods, materials and experiences. They are designed to move in spring to large outdoor enclosures that mimic their natural habitat.
