WASHINGTON: NASA director Jim Briddenstein said SpaceX founder, Elon Musk, would not smoke again grasses in public, the media reported.

Referring to the infamous marijuana consumption during February, the NASA commander said that "it was not appropriate behavior," and people will not see it again, the Atlantic reported on Thursday.

Breidenstein said he had recently talked to Mosk about not wanting NASA contractors to deal with questionable behavior.

"We had some conversations," he said.

"I'm telling you, he's committed to security like everyone else, and he understands it was not proper behavior, and you will not see it again," Breidenstein told reporters at NASA headquarters in Washington on Thursday.

NASA together with SpaceX and Musk are developing transportation systems that will allow the US to fly astronauts from American land for the first time since the shuttle's deployment in 2011.

"The leaders of these organizations should take this as an example of what to do when you lead an organization that is going to launch American astronauts," said Breedenstein.

The warning comes about a week after reports suggest NASA will conduct workplace culture reviews in both SpaceX and Boeing.

"NASA will conduct a cultural assessment study in coordination with our commercial partners to ensure that companies meet NASA's safety requirements in the workplace, including adherence to a drug-free environment," the agency said in a statement.

On Thursday, Breindenstein said he personally ordered the reviews.

He attributed his decision to a number of tragedies in NASA's history, including the Apollo 1 fire in 1967 when three astronauts were killed during the ground test, and two shuttle disasters (in 1986 and Columbia in 2003) Which together killed 14 people.

The SpaceX spokeswoman declined to comment on Breidenstein's remarks.

NASA, in 2014, gave SpaceX and Boeing a combined $ 6.8 billion in the development of launch systems that could transport NASA astronauts to and from the ISS.

Last week, NASA announced that SpaceX's first test was temporarily scheduled for January 7, but Breidenstein said on Thursday that the date was not expected to catch up into the spring.

Scheduled test flights are expected next summer but this timeline is also expected to change, the report said.
