In 2023, a 700-foot-wide asteroid could affect Earth, according to NASA members quoted on the British news site Express.

The date of the nearest potential impact that the spacestone, called asteroid 2018 LF16, can affect the planet, is August 8, 2023, according to information from the medium.

As reported by Express, the risk of this occurrence occurs quite low. According to NASA calculations, there is a possibility of 30 million that LF16 will crash into the Earth and there is a 99.9999967% chance of failure.

On the Torino effect scale, this asteroid is "zero", which means that the probability of impact does not exist or as close as possible does not exist. But the size and number of potential dates of influence make it an incredibly powerful object.

Most asteroids crumble in contact with Earth's atmosphere.

At this point, the asteroid crosses more than 33,844 mph. NASA experts estimate that the asteroid has a diameter of about 688.8 feet (213 m).

According to the news portal, the size of the asteroid is almost twice that of Big Ben in London and twice as high as the Statue of Liberty in New York.

NASA said that the impact force of a large bone like this could be as destructive as the 50 megawatt blast of the most powerful nuclear device cascade ever detonated on the planet.

Fortunately, according to the European Space Agency (ESA), asteroids of this size tend to strike Earth less than once every thousand years. It would also require a much larger asteroid (more than 6 miles wide) to predict an extinction event similar to that of an asteroid that supposedly killed dinosaurs 65 million years ago.

A representative of ESA explained to express that some very large asteroids could result in massive destruction if the Earth were to strike, but our estimated population in our solar system is quite small. In fact, it is believed that more than 90 percent of them have been discovered and none of them pose any risk of impact.

"Some are very small (less than 10 m) and only a small fraction of the estimated population was discovered, but any effect would be detrimental," said an ESA member quoted by Mirror. "The main challenge comes from a population of medium objects, whose ranges range from tens to hundreds of meters."

Many of these asteroids exist in space and damage the impact of one of the space rocks could cause significant damage in cities or populated areas.
