November 15, 2018 – Major General Kenna Dagnew, former Chief of Metals and Engineering Corporation (METEC), was in federal court 10 Criminal Court today. He said that the lawyer asked Mina to represent him.The court, on the other hand, rejected Meigor's request to receive a public defender.
Major General Kenpa told the court yesterday that he can not afford to pay for defense. He said he was getting 4,000 Birr as income and asked for a public commissioner appointed by the court.
However, the police told the court today that they have evidence indicating that General Kinfa Dagnew deposited and took out 100,000 Bier from his bank account between 24/10/2018 and 29/10/2018.
In opposition to the public defender, the police also presented evidence of the ownership of Major General Kinfi – a vehicle of 80,000 Bir, a house in the town of Bishopto, and various shares in the companies.
The court postponed the next hearing until 19 November 2018.
The court, however, received a request from Fitsum Yeshitila, another former employee of the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC), to receive a public defender.
She is accused of receiving 954,770 Bir from tMETEC in an illegal sponsorship deal.
In another development, Yard Zerihon, former deputy head of National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) and Inspector General of the Federal Police Commission, appeared today in court.
He was taken into custody yesterday by the police, about 30 kilometers south of Addis Ababa.
Also, Colonel Godetta Olena, head of the security department at Bath-Yu Telecom, was caught by the police.
