12:41 – McLaren signed a long-term agreement with British tobacco producer American Tobacco, the former owner of the Formula 1 BAR team. This was announced today by the UK.
BAT took control of the Tyrrell team in late 1997, after which the team was still active under the old name for a year before its name changed to Bar. In 2004, the seasoned team experienced its best. Jenson Button finished ten times on the bench and was third behind Ferrari drivers Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello, while BAR finished the second with the manufacturers. At the end of 2005 Bar was acquired by Honda. BAT remained the group's sponsor for the season, and then it completely withdrew Formula 1 for the 2007 season due to a ban on tobacco advertising that came into force in the Royal Class of motorsport that year.
McLaren announced today that it has signed a partnership with BAT, which will focus primarily on BAT's desire to invent products that indicate a lower health risk. "We warmly congratulate BAT for the McLaren team and support their drive to make a lasting change in innovation," said McLaren CEO Zack Brown. "The goal of BAT to change is central to this collaboration and we look forward to sharing our technical expertise and expertise to accelerate this process."
McLaren will present the car for Formula 1 2019 season on Thursday, February 14, with Lando Norris and Carlos Sienz Jr. The crew has a brand new driver.
