One person is diagnosed with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in the West Visayas every 13 hours, according to the Department of Health and Health Development (DOH-CHD) -6.

Caroline Tumabotabo, V's sister of CHD-6, said Western Visayas ranked fifth in the country in terms of the percentage of new HIV cases in August 2018.

"From 1986 to August 2018, there are 2, 741 cases recorded in the area." Of this, 2,263 cases were asymptomatic and 478 were considered advanced cases or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) cases, "added Tumabotabo.

Monalisa Diones, Philippine Family Planning Organization (FPOP) -Iloilo program director, said they also noted an increase in the number of people reporting HIV and AIDS deaths.

"The increase in the number of cases can be attributed to better reporting and case finding," Dions said.

Meanwhile, DOH-6 recorded 278 deaths with the largest number of fatalities in the city of Iloilo (20), followed by Iloilo County with 13; City in Bacolod with 11; And Negros Occidental with 7.

In Visayas West, there are five treatment centers namely, Western Medical Center and Visayas Medical City in Iloilo, Ang to Memorial Hospital Salazar Memorial, Corazon Hospital Lucsin Memorial at Negros and Dr. Rafael Tumbokon Memorial Hospital Aklan.

Apart from the first free laboratories and free services, DOH-6 said that they also extended their clinic hours from 8 am to 8 am in their treatment centers.

The bottom line is that with World AIDS Day on December 1, DOH will organize campus tours and seek HIV / AIDS ambassadors.

The campus tour is designed to raise awareness among students to help prevent the spread of the disease, while the annual search will seek ambassadors who will win the public over the disease.
