Cristiano Ronaldo is set to show his polite side on Wednesday night when he faces Juventus Torino against Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League. Not when it comes to dealing with any goals, but when it comes to communicating with the judge. Or rather, with the judge. With Stephanie Farpert, a leading woman playing in the first class first class.
The 36-year-old French woman has experience dealing with stars. Farpert has already played two Europa League games this season and led the Supercup between Liverpool and Chelsea last year. She is no stranger to Switzerland either. Last August she was a referee in the Premier League match between Neuchatel Xmax and Lugano. In 2018 it whistled the international game of the women’s hut in Switzerland against the Netherlands.
In France people are proud to be a pioneer from their country. “Congratulations to French Stephanie Farpert, the first female referee in the Champions League,” the French Foreign Ministry tweeted on Tuesday.
